Love ‘em or hate ‘em this lingerie stable discovery is the consequence of the loin cloth! Post Stone Age, these scandalous bottoms didn’t debut until the 1970s on the beaches of Brazil. About twenty years later they caught on onto Uncle Sam’s terrain. If you’re rockin’ your favorite extra-stretch dress pants or semi-see-through white linen sundress and aren’t a fan of going commando (for fear of joining the esteemed panty- less list with Paris and Britney) you know where to turn. Contrary to the perception of those who don't wear thongs, the right thong can actually be more comfortable than the more traditional approach. In fact, talk with anyone who has worn a thong for years and you'll find someone who will not want to go back to the full-coverage option.
So what is a thong? I know, duh? Well just in case you've been living on some deserted island for the past twenty years wearing your loin cloth. Thongs consist of a narrow piece of cloth that covers the essentials, passes between the cheeks, and attaches to a band around the waist, essentially leaving the little to the imagination for those lucky enough to catch a rear view. To complicate things, thongs are often also referred to as g-strings but the two terms actually do not mean the same thing. See you learn something new every day!

It’s undeniable that there are both lovers and haters of these undies, but come on people, a piece of cloth that got a shout-out in a Cam Diaz film AND inspired a song (Sisqo) is worth talking about.
Women Lingerie Fashion - The G-String
You may or may not be surprised to hear there is more than one type of thong. Yes v-strings, c-strings, g-strings, t-backs and “cheeky” undies are all part of the mix. G-strings are by far the most popular (although the cheeky ones are adorable!). If you’re the inquisitive type, you’d like to know g-strings were primarily worn by "dancers" (yes dancers with parentheses) back in the day. Thanks to celebrities like Aaliyah scantily-clad in her “Are You That Somebody” video, the rear-exposing garment has exploded in popular culture. Real credit, however, is owed to our favorite lingerie store, Vicky’s Secret! Thanks to Victoria, thongs in are no longer such a secret but are rather considered an integral part in the lives of today's fashionistas. That’s right, booty floss lets you pull off your designer duds without having to worry about the dreaded panty line (the ultimate fashion faux pas).
Other Thong Styles
Other benefits? Well remember when I said these briefs originated on Brazilian beaches? Thongs pool or beachside minimize tan lines. However, a seamless tan doesn’t come without some strings attached (no pun intended). In general, one needs to meet at least one of three criteria:1) possess a perfect body (I mean, who can forget the rear view of a 15-year-old Katherine Heigel in My Father The Hero) 2) live in Europe, Brazil, or Miami and 3) possess a willingness to endure the attention you're bound to receive. Okay, okay so you don’t meet ANY of the criteria? No worries--thong skivvies are totally different. They can be worn by anyone, any age, and even any body type...although there may be some obvious exceptions. Sorry. Spend some time exploring this topic and you're bound to hear about the potential health issues of thongs. Most problems you might have heard about are oftentimes avoided by good ole common sense and feminine hygiene. Thong Lingerie Style Guide
There are as many opinions on the proper way to wear a thong as there are people that own them. Now ladies I don’t want to preach (and I’m especially talking to you teens out there) but thongs are best when they are undiscovered --at least with respect to the public eye ;). Remember: class…not trash. Improper wearing of thongs can communicate the wrong message. Pay attention because this can't be overemphasized and it actually extends beyond thongs to any lingerie with only one exception: black bra and shear shirt is sooo in right now. In all other cases save it for the bedroom. I mean I don’t know of any guy or girl that thinks an eyeful of whale tale is cute anyways!
We all know of some great lingerie that has created controversy. I mean, Vicky’s super-sexy angels strut the runway decked out in everything from candy to diamonds.
